History
The TR8 was a last ditch attempt to provide an exciting powerful sports car. Based on the TR7 it used the V8 Rover engine to give it some real power. Unfortunately only 2,800 were built and many of these went abroad.
Specification
For the TR8 they shoehorned in a V8 Rover engine and gave it the 5 speed gearbox. Although it only produces 133BHP the performance in such a light body was quite exceptional.
What to look for
Like the TR7 the body on the TR8 is a monocoque construction and like many British Leyland cars of the time it is prone to rust. Look for welding in all the usual places underneath and check the wings and boot for signs of corrosion or filler. They are quite possible to repair, but it takes time and effort.
There are a growing number of outlets providing parts for TR8s so you shouldn’t have too many problems keeping one on the road.
