Terrys TR2 rebuild rebuild

Competing for the title "longest TR rebuild in history" , Terry Blake started work on rebuilding his TR2 30 years ago! Distracted by little things like his family, work and his other TR, the TR2 languished in a shed in the back garden. There are no photos from the early days; the pictures you see here are from the last couple of years when Terry decided he would complete the work and get the car back on the road again.

This first picture show the bumper and lights in need of some new chrome.
One of the things you will notice from these pictures are the number of people who have been roped in to help complete the rebuild.

Here you can see a good technical approach being adopted - if in doubt, hit it with a hammer!

It is amazing that all this work has been done in a garden shed that is only marginally bigger than the car itself. Here you can see the amount of space available to install the rear axle.
Remembering where everything went after 30 years has been a problem. The shed was too small to keep everything together so some bits have been stored in the loft, others in another shed or simply out in the open. Fortunately with everything smothered in grease and oil they have survived reasonably well. Here one of the brake drums is being skimmed having been cleaned up.
Again a bit of help needed; this time to reassemble the front suspension. Without the weight of the engine, they needed to use a heavy duty strap to pull the body down.
These next few pictures show the engine being rebuilt at Carlow Engineering in Benfleet. Firstly the cylinder head being reassembled.
Here you can see Tony rebuilding the main block.
Here is the bottom end all nice and clean. See that Terry even has his name on the crankshaft - there's posh!
And of course the view from the top - all nice and shiny (for now).
The cylinder head is united with the block...
... and Gordon finally putting it all together
