Terry's TR2 emerges after 35 years!

In 1975, Terry moved his TR2 into a small shed at the bottom of his garden. Then a couple of years ago he decided to start rebuilding it. Working in an incredibly tight space Terry, with the help of various members of the club, repaired and welded the chassis and body and refurbished the mechanics. Finally in April 2010 the car re-emerged on the last stage of its rebuild.

The shed was only wide enough to get down one side at a time. So when that side was finished the body was manhandled across to give access to the other side.

Space under the car was no better. Here Bob gets the back axle onto the car whilst lying on his back!

Over the years the various bits had been moved and locating them became a treasure hunt. Once found they all needed cleaning and refurbishing, like this brake drum.

Brian helps to rebuild the front suspension.

The engine was taken to Carlow Engineering for a complete rebuild

Terry builds some ramps to help roll the car out of the shed.

And finally the great day arrives. The sun is shining and the car waits behind closed doors for its first outing in 35 years.

The engine and gearbox have been assembled and wait on the hoist....

.... whilst Terry, complete with clipboard gets ready to direct his troops.

The doors open and the car is ready to start its journey.

First job is to put the wheels on.

The the team assemble the ramps to allow the car to be rolled from the shed onto the lawn.

With a safety rope in place to stop the car rolling too far, the team carefully manoeuvre it onto the ramps.

With Terry at the wheel (sitting on a milk crate!) the first stage is successfully completed...

...and the car comes to rest on the lawn.

The shed looks bereft without the car, but it is still a surprise that so much work had been done in such a small space.

After a brief rest the team begin the second stage.

The ramps are moved to enable the car to be rolled down onto the patio..

...and again the manoeuvre is completed without a hitch.

Now for the final stage, to get the car out of the garden and into the garage.

The car has to be manhandled to get it through the gates and onto the driveway.

It then has to be turned so the nose is pointing into the garage.

And finally it gets pushed into the garage - be careful of that front wing!

The engine and gearbox are carefully lowered into body shell ...

....taking care not to damage the bodywork or foul the steering rack.

The team finally manage to bolt the engine and gearbox in place ...

... and the car is ready for the remaining panels to be put on before going off to Dave Dodd's to be finished.

And after a very successful morning the team get stuck into sausage and bacon rolls kindly provided by Pat.

Watch out for the final stage of this epic rebuild when the TR2 makes its debut.
