Bargains at the classic restoration show

Only two Essex Group members hauled themselves along to the Classic Restoration Show at Stoneleigh on the 23rd October. There were noticeably less stands than in previous years with many of the “major” specialists not attending and although there were plenty of visitors, the event was nowhere near as crowded as usual. Bernie Steeples did very well in procuring a genuine Lockheed master cylinder repair kit (for his 2) for the princely sum of £5!! These usually go at around £20 – well done, Bernie!

Group regalia and publications

As mentioned in the last Bulletin, Radiator Badges and Lapel Badges will soon be available (hopefully before Christmas). The rad badge will sell for £10 and the pin badge for £3. Also expected imminently is another edition of Essex Group News.

Our multi talented Paul Sealey (Webmaster, Calendar Compiler and EGN Production Manager!!) received the printer’s proofs earlier this week and the presses should soon be rolling with the Winter Edition – with any luck I should have copies by the next S&D meeting.

The rather swish 2012 Essex Group Calendar is now available at all our meetings. It is similar in format to this year’s but is cheaper at £3.50! If you can’t make any of the meetings, please contact me to reserve a copy – but be aware that they are selling fast, so don’t delay!

Essex Air Ambulance presentation

At this month’s S&D meeting on the 22nd we will be hosting a presentation given by Nina of the Essex Air Ambulance. This promises to be an interesting audio visual event which we are planning to get under way about 20.30hrs. If you intend dining at the S&D that evening, it would be a great help if you could “eat early” so that tables and chairs can be rearranged for Nina’s talk.

Stockade GPS tracker

Last month’s presentation on the “Stockade” GPS tracker device was well received and several Members have already bought these gizmos – the writer included. If you are undecided or would like to talk over the pros & cons, please feel free to give me a call. If you are about to make a purchase please contact me for the Essex Group password – this will ensure you are only charged the special club price and you don’t pay any delivery costs.

Quiz Night

Saturday the 19th is the date of our annual Quiz Night. This event is now fully subscribed and ticket holders should plan to arrive at the Little Warley & Childerditch village hall no later than 19.00hrs for the first questions at 19.30hrs – this is 30 minutes earlier than printed on your tickets. Don’t forget to bring a few nibbles and your own drinks to supplement the Fish & Chick supper which will be served at 21.00hrs.

Give your views in the TR Register Member survey

I hope by now you have all read TR Action magazine issue 253 and paid particular attention to the plea from G.M. Allen Forster on page 15. (O.K., so that’s got you scurrying to find issue 253!). If you have not already done so, please take just 10 minutes or so to complete the on-line Members’ Survey mentioned in Allen’s “From the Office” article.

It is important that the Management is aware of Members’ views and needs and this survey is a good way to have your opinions taken into account. Don’t forget that, over the years, many fine organisations have “gone to the dogs” almost entirely due to the apathy of their membership – don’t let this happen to the TR Register. Thumbs out of bums chaps, dig out your Membership Number and hit that keyboard!

Events in December

There are still a few places left for our Christmas Dinner Dance on 10th December at Burstead Golf Club. Total cost comes in at £35 per head and many of you will soon be receiving your menu choice forms. Please complete these a.s.a.p. and return them to me together with the outstanding balance – nearly everyone has paid a deposit of £10 so in most cases there is just £25 per head to pay. If you have not yet reserved you seat(s), contact me for a menu sheet immediately – the books will be closed on this event on the 23rd November. Whilst I am on the Christmas kick, I’ll mention that the usual 4th Tuesday at the S&D in December has been cancelled and a buffet lunch planned for Thursday 29th December at the Royal Tiger in Rettendon. Full details will appear in my December Bulletin.

TR Heater - for those cold winter nights...

And finally, Roger Warner has been in touch with some very interesting information on TR heater systems – primarily for sidescreeen cars but other models are catered for. If you are unhappy with your heater, have a peek at www.t7design.co.uk and learn all about a modern, reasonably priced, high output (2.2kw) micro unit for your beloved (your TR, that is!).

Items for Sale and Wanted

Ralph Elmore has a “Racestorations” Hi Torque starter motor for sale. This unit has just been reconditioned by “Racestorations” and is suitable for TR5s and 6s. Ralph is asking for £140 o.n.o. for this virtually new starter. He can be contacted on 07939 516456.

Fancy something really exotic for your TR6? Geoff Broad is looking for around £650 for a set of 17” wheels fitted with low profile PZeros.
