Happy new year to all membersOn behalf of myself and the Committee, I’ll kick off by wishing you all a very Happy (and healthy) New Year with plenty of top-down TR motoring. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this current very wintry spell may be a precursor to a “proper” summer to come – one can but hope!! Amazingly, the arctic weather did not stop some sixteen Essex Groupies from attending the pre-Christmas meet at “The Old Windmill” on the 22nd December. At that Meeting, we were very pleased to welcome to the Group a new member, Martin Moore. Martin is a TR6 owner and lives in Stapleford Abbotts, so I expect to see a lot of him at our regular meetings at “The Rabbits”.The Annual Post Xmas curryPossibly due to the weather/road conditions only twelve of us turned out for the post-Christmas curry at “The Royal Tiger”, Rettendon on Tuesday 29th. A really excellent meal was enjoyed by all and this year we got the pricing right at £9 per head - including the tip!Got your calendar yet?I am sorry to say that this year the sales of the 2010 Essex Group Calendars have been disappointing and, unless things buck up in the next couple of weeks, we will lose money on this venture. I am surprised to see that quite a few members whose cars are actually featured have not (as yet) bought a copy! Surely it must be worth a fiver if just for archive purposes? Weather permitting, I will have copies available at the next “The Rabbits” and “TOW” meetings but if you can’t make these evenings, just give me a bell and I will pop your copy in the post.Essex Group News now availableAlthough everyone was on time with the copy deadline (well done contributors), for the Autumn/Winter edition of Essex Group News, its publication has been beset by a series of unavoidable delays – the last of which was attributable to the severe weather conditions delaying delivery. I am pleased to report that, at last, we have taken delivery of the magazine and it will also be available at the above meetings.TOW meetings in the new yearThis month, the “TOW” meeting on the 26th January will be given over to our annual Classic Video Evening. As well as an offering from the archives, the TR7 and 8 enthusiasts will be catered for with the screening of an unusual film which Steve Tant has acquired. I’ve previewed this and found it (surprisingly!) interesting.Just a reminder that “The Old Windmill” will be closed for re-decoration for an estimated three weeks from the 14th February and there will therefore be no “TOW” meeting in February. The Committee is very pleased and grateful to David Mountain - he of “MountTune” fame - who has very kindly offered to lead a conducted tour of his tuning facility in Shenfield on the evening of 23rd February. Dave tells me that there is a convenient pub nearby where we can conclude the evening’s business! Watch for more details in the next Bulletin. A.G.M. time is fast approaching and, during the course of the next few weeks, I shall be sending all Members the usual batch of documents. If you would like an electronic copy of the draft Minutes of the last A.G.M., just e-mail me with your request. Please give some thought to any changes you would like to see introduced that would improve the way in which the Group is run and also give some consideration as to whether you could make your own contribution by standing for a Committee position. All of the present Committee have been in post for over three years (most for over five years) and some new faces on the “top table” would be most welcome and a benefit to the Group at large. We generally meet in Committee only once a month and the duties are not that onerous – honestly! What is needed is new blood and new ideas – if you are interested, just have a quiet word with me or Andy for more details. Assuming the renovations are complete, the A.G.M. will be held on Tuesday March 23rd at “TOW”.
