John Blumson

The weather during October was pretty settled and attendances at the monthly meets have continued to be very good with the number of TRs present generally in the high teens. The good weather held for Friday 23rd and over twenty TRs (many with their hoods down) from the Local Groups rolled up to say goodbye to John Blumsom at Parndon Wood Crematorium (Harlow). John, a member of the East Saxons, lost his brave fight against cancer on 1st October and will be missed by his many friends in both the East Saxons and Essex Groups.

National restoration show

The National Restoration Show was held on Sunday 25th October and a small contingent of Essex Group members made the annual pilgrimage to Stoneleigh for this event. Although still well worth the visit, the show was not so well attended by both the public and traders as in previous years – this has been the general pattern with most of the car shows over the last twelve months or so. I considered myself fortunate in being able to source and buy a long-obsolete Lockheed master cylinder repair kit for my (recently) refurbished twin bore cylinder. I was told “that’s the last one of these, Mate” but was still surprised at the price of £20 for what is basically four small pieces of rubber!!

Race Night cancelled

I am sorry to have to report that, due to lack of support, the hitherto very popular annual Race Night at Warley Village Hall planned for Saturday 14th November has had to be cancelled. This has always been a family event and I suspect that many of the “kids” have reached that age where Sex, Drugs and Rock an’ Roll (or whatever the modern equivalent is) are more attractive than an evening spent with the “Olds” behaving like children!

Last few tickets for the Xmas dinner

On a more positive note, this year’s Annual Dinner at TOW on Saturday 5th December is being well supported and only three tickets remain unsold. If you would like to attend or if you are already on the guest list and wish to bring non-member friends, do please phone Mary or me without delay to reserve your place(s). I have to let TOW have the food order by the middle of next week so, if you already have your tickets and have not yet completed your menu selection, please do so straight away.

2010 Calendar available at Club meetings

The 2010 Essex Group Calendar, featuring Members’ cars, will be available at both “The Rabbits” and the Christmas Dinner and there is an outside chance that the Winter edition of Essex Group News may also be available at the latter event – that will depend on the Printers. Steve Tant, our Events Co-ordinator is currently preparing next season’s Events Calendar and this will be distributed as soon as it is available – hopefully with E.G.N.

Support the Essex Air Ambulance

I am pleased to report that Bob Eve has recently taken over Essex Group liaison responsibilities with the Essex Air Ambulance. Bob has prepared an information sheet on E.A.A.’s activities and how we can actively support this incredibly important charity. Do please take the time to read the enclosed and maybe consider becoming a regular donator by supporting E.A.A.’s weekly lottery.

Christmas present ideas

Just a reminder, with Christmas coming, that a gift of Essex Group logoed leisure clothing for the TR driver in your life, would always be welcomed! See below for the range available but please note that we only have five radiator badges left in stock and replacements will probably be three times the present price.

Polo Shirts @ £17.50
Sweat Shirts @ £20.00
Rugby Shirts @ £20.00
Fleece Gilets @ £20.00
Radiator Badges @ £8.50 (round only)
