Danbury Garden Fete

Danbury Garden Fete on Sunday the 14th June was well attended, due in part to the beautiful weather on that day. Jo and Bob Eve’s 3a was decked out with balloons and streamers to celebrate its 50th birthday and several glasses of champers were downed in celebration!

Welcome to more new members

Again, in part due to the sunny weather, attendance at the regular TOW meeting on Tuesday 23rd June was excellent – I lost count after 18 cars had turned up. At that meeting I was very pleased to meet John Dell and his son Paul. Paul is an Austin Healey fan but dad John is part way through restoring a 3a – completion time hoped to be during next season. John has joined Essex Group and I hope he and Paul will attend local meetings in the 3000 whilst the TR is undergoing refurbishment.

Arrangements for Essex Day - 5th July

Essex Day is this Sunday (5th July) at Ingatestone Hall – kick off at 11.00hrs. The forecast is for more beautiful weather so I hope everybody will make every effort to turn up. The Group is supplying the cooking facilities, hot-dogs and burgers in buns, so all you will need to bring with you is your own drinks, salad stuffs etc. There will be the usual large marquee to provide shelter from the sun and an all day coffee pot but we have not been able to borrow tables and chairs on this occasion (the Billericay Scouts also have an event this weekend) so you should bring your own. We will be making a nominal charge of £1 for the BBQ food and all monies collected will be divided between the Lord Petre’s current Essex-based charity and the Billericay Scouts. Don’t miss this excellent opportunity for a relaxing day out in the TR in the lovely grounds of one of the County’s finest stately homes.

Porsche Owners BBQ - Tuesday 14th July

A major change to our traditional routine is that the usual 2nd Tuesday of the month meeting at The Rabbits on the 14th July is cancelled for this month only. As an alternative, all Essex Group members are invited to the annual Porsche Owners’ Club BBQ at the Regiment Way Golf Centre, Pratts Farm Lane, Chelmsford. We will be rendezvousing at the Boreham Services (lorry park) for a 19.00hrs departure to the venue which is about 10 minutes down the road. Please don’t be late as this is a huge event – over 200 classics are expected – and the queues for food and the bar become overwhelming as the evening wears on. I suggest that you should bring your own drinks as waiting time at the bar last year ran to 30 minutes!! The grub is supplied by outside caterers and is of excellent quality and quite reasonably priced. The 14th is an important anniversary in the life of one of our Members and his car (which he has owned from new) so it’s worth turning up to be part of that celebration.

International Weekend - 25/26th July

The weekend of 25th/26th July sees the TR Register’s International Meeting at Malvern. As in previous years, the Essex Group will be commandeering an area of the Showground for our exclusive use during the event. Terry Blake (who will be at Essex Day this Sunday) will be staking out our enclosure on Thursday 23rd and would be grateful if you would let him know if you will be attending and the size of your tent (if camping). Several of us are travelling up to Malvern on Friday 24th and if you would like to join the convoy (10.00hrs from Boreham services) please contact me or Group Leader Andy.

Got your Essex Group News?

I hope you have all enjoyed reading the latest edition of Essex Group News and I feel a special vote of thanks should go to Carol King who does such an excellent job of putting the magazine together and to those contributors who take the time and trouble to produce articles and pics – well done! If you have not received a copy of the Spring edition, please let me know without delay – some still apparently get lost in the post.
