Members Rebuilds

Although we have just enjoyed a short spell of relatively Spring-like weather, the forecast for the next few days is for a return to wintry conditions – so no hood-down motoring later this week then! Never mind, there’s always plenty to do this time of year readying the cars for the forthcoming season. I know Bernie Steeples, Terry Blake and Alan St. Pier are all cracking on with their re-builds/restorations and I believe Andy D’s 5 is very nearly ready to hit the road after an extensive suspension re-fettlement.

Welcome to new Members

Attendances at our regular meetings have continued to be very good and I am pleased to welcome two new members to the Group. Peter Batt is from Hockley and has recently acquired a beautifully restored TR3a. Jim Hayes comes from Newbury Park and is currently looking for a good 4a. Jim owned a TR4a some years ago and is keen to repeat the experience – can’t blame you for that, Jim!

A night for petrol heads

Mike Jennings gave a very interesting talk on the "The Secret Life of a Petrol Station” at our recent Technical Evening held at The Old Windmill on the 24th February. I know that Mike was a little concerned that the rather arcane subject matter may not be of general interest but, in the event, he needn’t have worried as 38 members settled down for his PowerPoint presentation. We all learnt a great deal about the design and operation and the complexity of petrol stations and were horrified by some of the video clips (from surveillance cameras) of accidents involving mobile phones and static discharges. Mike had scheduled for 40 to 45 minutes but such was the level of interest and questions from the floor, he was on his feet for well over an hour! Well done Mike!

Advanced notice for the AGM

The Group’s Annual General Meeting will be held at the Old Windmill on Tuesday the 28th April and the usual A.G.M. documentation will be posted out to members later this week. The Windmill will be laying on a finger buffet for after the Meeting so you really will have to think up a very good excuse for not attending!

Extra events for your diary

Early warning of a couple of “extras” not on the Events Calendar. Sunday 26th April – Drive It Day at Hylands House, Chelmsford and Tuesday 14th July an evening BBQ with the Porche Owners’ Club at Regiment Way Golf Centre also in Chelmsford. More details from Stevie T closer to the time(s) but stick these in your diary/PDA before you forget!

Items for the next bulletin

I’m off to Micronesia on a diving expedition in a couple of weeks and as I shall be out of the country for nearly a month, this will be the last Bulletin until after the A.G.M. If you have any items for inclusion in the May issue, just stick them on an e-mail or pass them to Andy or Terry at the Windmill/Rabbits meetings.

Group Clothing

Don’t forget to support the Group by wearing Group Regalia when attending the many meetings on this year’s Events Calendar.

Polo Shirts @ £17.50
Sweat Shirts @ £20.00
Rugby Shirts @ £20.00
Fleece Gilets @ £20.00
Radiator Badges @ £8.50 (round only)

All the clothing is good quality (Fruit o’ the Loom/ Result etc) and is embroidered in gold with the Essex Group badge. The radiator badges represent excellent value for money. They are old stock and there are only eight left and replacements will cost at least twice as much when I reorder. I will be bringing the full range of regalia to the next couple of regular meetings, so stop me and buy!

Items for Sale

Brian Stokes has a pair of seat diaphragms for sale. They will fit TR4 to early TR6. They are brand new and Brian will accept £20.00 for them. So, if you have a droopy seat, here’s your chance! Brian can be contacted on 01708 342097 or by e-mail to brian.pamstokes@tiscali.co.uk
