Christmas Dinner/danceAlthough the level of support for the Groups Christmas Dinner Dance was down on previous years, sixty-four members and guests enjoyed an excellent meal and had a thoroughly good time. The Committee has detected a ground- swell of opinion that it is time for a change and this years celebrations will be held earlier in the month (5th December) at The Old Windmill in South Hanningfield. There is no music licence at this venue so I am afraid that the usual Disco is out, but the cost of the evening will be considerably less and the menu much more extensive....and still time for a curry! The impromptu Christmas Curry at The Royal Tiger (on the 30th Dec) was very well attended with 23 members and guests turning out, many of them in their TRs - with the hoods down!! Although cold, the 30th was a lovely sunny day and ideal for a spot of winter TRing. It was a great shame that several members who wanted to attend were unable to do so due to the 'orrible cold/flu bug which has been doing the rounds. I hope you are all recovered by now. Have you had your Essex Group news?By the time you read this, you should have received the latest copy of Essex Group News. If you haven't, please let Mike know as copies often go astray in the Christmas post.next years EventsSteve Tant, our Events Co-ordinator, has just finalised the details of the 2009 Events Calendar and these wallet-size calendars will be available for collection from Mike at the regular monthly meetings at The Rabbits and Windmill. He is also anxious to finalise numbers for the I.O.W. weekend over the May Bank Holiday (1st to 3rd inclusive). This should be an excellent bash with entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights and plenty of off-road, safe parking for your TR. In order to secure the premium rooms with sea views and balconies we have to book early so, if you are interested you must let Steve know without delay. TechnicalitiesI am sure you saw Roger Mew's article on trafficator sounders in the Technicalities section of the recent TR Action. This piece was judged "The Technical Article of the Month" and Roger received forty quid's worth of TR Register Gift Vouchers for his trouble - well done Roger. If you have a wheeze or a bodge that really works, why not try your luck for a cash award?Roger is a firm fan of Revington TR, probably the best source of quality TR components. Revington's have recently started an e-mail based Newsletter which can be found at www.revingtontr.com and click on Newsletter. Recently they featured a series of online videos covering the removal/installation of suspension bushes which would be helpful to any of you contemplating this work. Have a squint and see what you think. Group ClothingI am pleased to announce that I have restocked the Group's logoed clothing and am able to offer the following garments in a range of sizes:Polo Shirts @ £17.50 Sweat Shirts @ £20.00 Rugby Shirts @ £20.00 Fleece Gilets @ £20.00 Radiator Badges @ £8.50 (round only) All the clothing is good quality (Fruit o' the Loom/ Result etc) and is embroidered in gold with the Essex Group badge. The radiator badges represent excellent value for money. They are old stock and there are only eight left and replacements will cost at least twice as much when I reorder. I will be bringing the full range of regalia to the next couple of regular meetings, so stop me and buy! Film shows and talks - come to the club meetings! This month's Windmill meeting will host another of our archive videos. I have been able to get my hands on a Standard Film Unit edition of 40 TR3s touring Europe in 1956. It's a bit of a gem and well worth seeing - even if you're not a sidescreen enthusiast! The February Windmill evening will be given over to another of our Technical Talks. Mike Jennings (European Director of Engineering for Gilbarco Van der Roote) will present "The Secret Life of a Petrol Station". The title hardly does justice to the presentation which I am sure you will all find fascinating. Items for saleIf you have any items/cars for sale (or wanted) e-mail the details to Mike Boling and he will include them in the next available Bulletin. If you dont have access to the net, a written note will do. |
