Welcome to more new members

In last month’s Bulletin I reported on the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club open day at Battlesbridge on the 3rd August. As a result of the Essex Group attending this event, we were pleased to welcome two new members into the fold – David Tozer and Bernard Webb. Well, guess what? – a young couple in search of a TR6 visited our stand at Battlesbridge and have now found a very sound example of that model and have joined the Register and this Group! A very warm welcome goes to Linda and Roland Carpenter and we all look forward to seeing you again at the “Old Windmill” in South Hanningfield on the 23rd.

Location, Location, Location

Talking of “The Old Windmill”, another excellent turn-out of nineteen cars was recorded at our regular fourth Tuesday of the month meeting in August. Committee members took a straw poll of those attending, asking if they would favour a move from “TOKH” at Stock to the “Windmill”. The overwhelming opinion supported the Committee’s view that re-location was necessary due to the restricted car parking space at Stock, which was actively discouraging some members from attending. It was felt that the superb car park at the “Windmill” was about as good as it gets and, when combined with its pleasant rural location, the “Windmill” won hands down. In light of this, the Committee wish it to be known that as from now, our official venue for the regular 4th Tuesday meetings will be “The Old Windmill”, South Hanningfield Road, CM3 8HT.

Knebworth Party in the Park

On Bank Holiday Monday (25th), fourteen Essex TRs congregated firstly at Boreham Services on the A12 and then at the Birchanger Services on the M11, for a thoroughly enjoyable convoy through the lanes to the “TR Register’s Party in the Park” at Knebworth. This was the second time the Register has subscribed to this Classic Car event and the support from TR owners was magnificent – TRs dominated the show, both in the ring and out! This is an excellent event in the most picturesque surroundings. Knebworth enjoys commanding views across the surrounding countryside but pays the price for its elevation when the wind blows. When we left Chelmsford at 08.45hrs, the weather was warm and sunny and, whilst it remained mainly sunny throughout the day, by the time we were in deepest Hertfordshire, a chill wind had sprung up and fleeces were donned for the rest of the day! There was lots to see and do and plenty of trade and auto-jumble stands as well as some really interesting veteran and vintage cars alongside the usual classics - all in all, a very enjoyable day out. A big “thank you” to Nigel Holmes (who couldn’t attend) for providing the excellent convoy route from the M11.

Forthcoming events

Whilst thinking about auto-jumbles, don’t forget the Battlesbridge Show on Sunday the 28th September. John O’Connor is co-ordinating this one so, if you fancy coming along, contact John O to register your interest. He can be reached on 01277 650484 or 07111 898689.

Events Co-ordinator, Steve Tant, would appreciate a call if you fancy a run into Norfolk on the weekend of 19th – 21st to join the “Mile of Triumphs” in Fleggburgh. Contact Steve on 0208 550 3046 or 07931 180188 if you are interested.

Support the Rabbits club night

A special call to members at the “London” end of Essex. A significant number of “regulars” will be enjoying their TRs in France during next week and attendances at “The Rabbits” will obviously be affected by their absence. Please try to get along on the 9th and show the flag at this venue – it is important that the Group has a regular presence at this hostelry!

Congratulations to Terry and Pat

Our Life President, Terry Blake and his wife Pat have just become proud Grandparents. Their son Dean and his wife Sonia have just had a baby girl, Leila Aurora. Problem is – they live in Australia so Pat is missing cuddles at the moment.
