Bulletin 47

Welcome to more new members

For the second month running I am delighted to kick off the Bulletin with a warm welcome to two new members of the Essex Group. David Tozer has recently acquired a somewhat modified and rather swift TR4a to add to his already impressive collection of “classics”. Also new to the Group are Bernard Webb and his daughter Tracey. Bernard is presently on the hunt for a Michelotti TR and would welcome any leads from Group members.

Jaguar Enthusiasts meeting at Battlesbridge

Both Dave and Bernie initially made contact with the Group at the recent (Sunday 3rd) Battlesbridge gathering of the Jaguars Enthusiasts Club. We were guests at this meet and, somewhat un-typically, our display was dominated by the early models – sixes and sevens being thin on the ground for once! A very enjoyable day was had and the weather behaved itself up to around 4 o’clock when the heavens opened (and didn’t close until the early hours of Monday morning!). By the time it turned, the show was virtually over and 14 of us decamped to our favourite local venue “The Royal Tiger” for yet another Thai/Indian nosh-up.

Success at the International

A couple of weeks prior to this bash, The Essex Group had an excellent turn-out at the International at Malvern. Our Friday night Quiz Team acquitted themselves very well and nicked second place and on the Sunday we enjoyed success in the doggies’ show ring with Megan Lambe and Madog capturing a first in the Junior Handling class. Chris Dimbleby also won a 1st prize – I won’t say what the event was; it’s best you ask her personally!! The Stokes family did ever so well in the concourse with Graham’s superb (non-standard) TR7 winning the silver award. The gate was a bit “down” on previous years possibly due to bad memories of 2007 and the widespread flooding but the event was, as ever, a resounding success.

Return to the Old Windmill

The change of venue for July’s fourth Tuesday of the month meeting was very successful with 23 TRs turning up and dominating the huge car park at “The Old Windmill”. There were one or two issues with the price/quality of the food and the cost of a pint but the overwhelming impression was extremely favourable. Before committing ourselves to a permanent change, we will be returning to “The Old Windmill” this month (on the 26th) to ensure that July’s success was not just a “one off”.

Bank Holiday Monday at Knebworth

On Bank Holiday Monday (25th) we will be running two convoys to the “TR Register’s Party in the Park” at Knebworth. This is a very picturesque location and a huge “classic” meet with loads of trade stands, autojumble etc. etc. It is a really good day out and we will assemble at the Boreham Services on the A12 for an 08.30hrs departure through the lanes to Stansted. This convoy will then join with those who may have made their way independently to the Birchanger Services on the M11 (at Stansted). All the cars will depart Birchanger at 09.30 – 09.45 hrs following a scenic route to Knebworth kindly supplied by “local boy” Nigel Holmes. The E.T.A. at Knebworth will be around 10.00hrs. If you fancy joining the convoy please let Andy or me know – or you may get left behind!
