Meeting venue

Attendances at our monthly meetings at “The Rabbits” and “The Old King’s Head” have been very good – to the point where the congestion of the car park at the latter venue is beginning to cause real problems. Word on the grapevine is that “The White Horse” at Downham (our previous and very satisfactory venue) will not be welcoming car clubs when it re-opens in a few weeks. We were, therefore, understandably relieved when the management of “TOKH” told us that they are hoping to buy the field at the end of the car park (in the near future) and thereby ease the parking problem. If things have not improved by early summer I reckon that The Essex Group will yet again be on the hunt for another venue – that will be the fourth in as many years!!

AGM at the Kings Head

This month’s meeting at “TOKH” will be largely devoted to the Annual General Meeting. By now you should have all received the formal paperwork but, as yet, Mike has not received any nominations or proposals so it looks as though it will be a fairly brief event! The AGM will start at 20.00 hrs and a finger buffet will be served at 21.00hrs – it is hoped that this will not only encourage attendance but also ensure the proceedings do not drag on too long!!

Award for the TR Register at Ally Pally

The TR Register was awarded 2nd prize for their stand at the recent show at the Ally Pally – our own Steve Tant’s recently rebuilt TR7 featured on the stand along with other examples of the Marque. Steve tells me he was very pleased to see quite a few Essex Group members who tipped up to give their support over the show weekend.

Mundesley weekend - a sell out

The Norfolk Weekend trip to The Manor House Hotel in Mundesley (announced in last month’s Bulletin) is now fully subscribed. If you are desperate to join us on this bash, give Mike B a bell on 01245 324593 and I will see if I can secure more rooms. The cost is £105 for the weekend and I need a £20 deposit per head to guarantee your booking – assuming more rooms can be made available.

Last chance for the Air Show Barge trip

There are still a few places left on the Southend Air Show Barge Trip on the 25th May, which is now open to family & friends. A £20 deposit secures your place and Steve T will give you full details of this fully catered day afloat.

Can you see what it is yet????

If you didn’t make it to “TOKH” on the 26th Feb you missed the showing of what has been unkindly dubbed “The Rolf Harris Re-build”. As Mike feared, an amusing evening was had (mainly at his expense!) watching the home re-build of his TR2 in 1976. These were the days when we made our own body repair panels and had to have an armoury of “bodges” to keep the beasts on the road and he is pleased to say that all the “dodgy solutions” seen in the film have stood the test of time and are still going strong! As with previous video evenings, we had a smattering of technical hitches – mainly with the DVD player this time –which meant that the second feature had to be abandoned. Sorry about that but there will be other opportunities!

Rebuild news

On the re-build front, Barry Street is ripping on with his TR4a and hopes to be rolling around Easter time. John Coshall has trailered his re-built TR3a back from the specialists in France and is presently working on getting the mechanics running sweetly – we are all looking forward to seeing this left hooker, John! My own engine re-build/transplant has taken a back seat over the last couple of weeks due to some unexpected property maintenance issues – I am hoping to restart the work mid March so the Yellow Peril should not be out of the scene for too long now.

Fish and Chips in Southend???

We had intended to meet up with The Kent Group for a visit to Chatham Historic Dockyard on Sunday 20th April. The Kent Group have had to postpone the visit to later in the year so we are now going to meet up with The North London Group for a Fish and Chip foray along the seafront at Southend. More details will be forthcoming from Steve T in due course.
