Rebuild News

Barry Street is due to collect the fully restored body shell of his 4a in the next couple of weeks and will be a busy boy reassembling the car for the next month or two. He has spent the last few weeks re-building his spare engine and gearbox and is now looking forward to getting started re-trimming the interior.

Vic Russo has nearly completed work on his 6 which now boasts a fully rebuilt and de-leaded engine and a new clutch.

Terry Blake continues to make progress on his 30 year re-build of his TR2 and although things have slowed down a bit over the festive period he is still hopeful that the car will be up and running for the French Trip in September.

Group Leader Andy D has his 2 back on the road after his cylinder head conversion and gearbox and overdrive transplant. He has lashed out on a rather lovely stainless steel 4 branch extractor manifold and the car is really flying. Apart from the general improvement in performance, Andy is delighted that his hitherto roughish engine now ticks over smoothly at just 500 RPM!

Mike B is about to start a complete engine, gearbox and overdrive rebuild and admits to being sorely tempted when he look at Andy’s new four-branch!

Get your articles in for the next Essex Group News

The latest edition of Essex Group News has been very well received and if you have not yet received a copy, they will be available at our next meeting at “The Old King’s Head” on the 22nd of this month. We are starting to assemble copy for the Spring/Summer edition and contributions will be very welcome – as will any photographs that you think may be of interest. Don’t forget that we are always on the look-out for “Archive” pieces so have a hunt round in those old cardboard boxes for any interesting TR articles. Hard copy and pics can be handed to any Committee Member but electronic copy should be sent to either Mike B at secretary1@essex-tr.org or Trevor Hughes – see E.G.N for Trevor’s address.

Air Show Barge Trip

There are still some places left for the Southend Air Show Barge Trip on the 25th May so if you fancy a really good day afloat don’t delay in paying Steve Tant your £20 booking deposit to guarantee your place.

Check your car details!

We are pleased to report that Roger Mew is now recovering from the nasty attack of shingles which ruined his (and Gloria’s) Christmas. Roger has kindly forwarded some info which he received from Paul Costin of the East Saxons Group. Paul says that the Police, the DVLA and Insurance Companies have formulated a database of insured/uninsured vehicles. If you are “pulled” by the fuzz, this is the record which they will interrogate to check if you have valid insurance. Imagine Roger’s surprise when, on checking the database, he discovered his TR6 was logged as a “Triumph 1100 DeLuxe”! Not only wrong but bloody insulting!! When Mike B logged on to askmid.com he also found that his 2 was similarly labelled. You should check what your TR is registered as and, if incorrect, report this immediately to your insurance company. Many thanks Roger (and Paul) for this “heads-up”.

Payments to the Club

Life President Terry has asked me to mention that there are still a few members who have not yet paid for their calendars. Please try to get your cheques to Terry without further delay and remember that they should be made payable to “Essex Group – T.R. Register” – endorsed “2008 Calendar” on the back. Whilst on the subject of payments, please do not ever make cheques payable to Committee Members. Cheques must always be made payable to “Essex Group – TR Register” with the subject of the payment written on the reverse side. If you pay cash for subs, deposits etc. etc. please ensure (that’s a polite way of saying insist) that you are handed a receipt by the receiving Committee Member, all of whom have receipt books. The Hon. Treasurer has a difficult enough job to do without the added complications of trying to identify who has/hasn’t paid for such and such and it’s embarrassing (for both parties) to be chased for monies that may have already been paid!

Video Night at the Old Kings Head

Mike B is trying to arrange another of our “Archive Video” evenings to coincide with our regular 4th Tuesday get-together at “The Old King’s Head” in January or February – so watch this space!

AGM - March 25th

Now, don’t start groaning but at the end of March (the 25th to be exact) we will be holding our Annual General Meeting. We are hoping to arrange to have this at “The Old King’s Head” with a finger buffet supplied – the same format as last year. We are always happy to welcome new blood onto the Committee and new faces prevent the management of the Group becoming “stale”. If you could spare a few hours a month to serve on the Committee, please complete a nomination form which will be in with the formal Notice that we will send out next month. Also included with the Notice will be a form for “proposals & motions” so, even if you don’t relish a Committee role, you will have the opportunity to influence the way in which the Group is run.
