Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year

As this is the last Bulletin of 2007, the Committee would like to take this opportunity to wish all Essex Group Members a very happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year with plenty of top-down motoring in prospect during the coming season.

Dinner Dance a great success

The annual Christmas Dinner Dance at Stapleford Abbots was (as usual!) a roaring and very noisy success and if you were one of those unlucky enough to have been unable to attend, I am sorry but you missed a blinder of a night. Thanks to the generosity and participation of members, the Group’s funds were topped up by the proceeds of the raffle and the “Heads & Tails” game. Congratulations to Louise Tant who was the “last man standing” in this game and won a cash prize of £25 for her efforts! Special thanks go to Pam StPier for the lovely prizes she donated to the raffle and thanks also to Andy Jennings for his invaluable help in running the H&T game. Terry B’s love affair with the microphone was not quite so evident this year and Andy D, Steve Tant and Mike B all managed to wrestle the mic from his fingers and shared in the announcing duties of the evening! The prizes for “The Best Dressed Lady & Gentleman” were won by a husband and wife team this year – non other than Pat and Terry Blake. This was a very close run contest with just three votes separating the winners from the rest of the field so well done Pat and Terry!

Did you get your Essex Group News?

The Dinner also provided an opportunity for members to collect their “hot off the press” copies of Essex Group News. A big vote of thanks must go to the editor Carol King for producing such an excellent edition. Any concerns which we may have had regarding the quality of the publication now that Carol has re-located in France, have proved to be entirely unfounded and this magazine just gets better and better!! It was very gratifying to see entries from new contributors in this latest issue and I hope this may inspire some of the rest of you to put pen to paper for future editions! If you didn’t collect your copy at the Dinner, don’t worry – they will be available at the next two regular meetings in January at The Rabbits and The Old Kings Head.

Air Show Barge Trip

Steve Tant and Mike Boling now have full details of the Southend Air Show Barge Trip on the 25th May and, if you require further information on this bash, please contact one of us. May I remind you all that “Thistle” is licensed for 50 passengers only, so this event will be on a strictly “first come, first served” basis and is (initially) only open to subscribing members, their partners and their children. Steve tells me that places are going fast so don’t delay in paying him your £20 booking deposit to guarantee your place on what promises to be an excellent day afloat.

Get well soon, Roger

I am sure that you would all like to join me in wishing Roger Mew a speedy recovery from a really rotten bout of shingles which caused him (and his wife Gloria) to miss this year’s Dinner Dance. Get well soon Roger – and STOP SCRATCHING!!

Restoration news

The bodywork of Barry Street’s dark blue 4a is currently undergoing professional restoration. Barry tells me that, after a recent inspection, he is delighted with the fit of the panels and is looking forward to collecting the re-painted body-shell in early January. The work is being carried out by specialists in Stow Maries (near South Woodham) so, if you live in the east of the county and are thinking about having panel work done, speak to Barry.

Have you paid for your Calendar?

The “Best Dressed Gentleman” (sic) Life President Terry has reminded me that quite a few members have not yet paid for their calendars. Please try to get your cheques to Terry before Christmas and remember that they should be made payable to “Essex Group – T.R. Register” - not to Terry himself. Please endorse the back of the cheque “2008 Calendar”.

Video Night at the Old Kings Head

I am trying to arrange another of our “Classic Video” evenings to coincide with our regular 4th Tuesday get-together at “The Old King’s Head” in January or February – so watch this space!
