Plans for Alan's BBQLocal intelligence has indicated that the planned convoy rendezvous points of “The Rabbits” and “The White Horse” are not suitable due to overflowing car parks on Sunday dinnertimes. The new rendezvous is the public car park in Billericay High Street. This is about half way along the High Street, on the left hand side, as you drive down from the Sun Corner (Basildon) end. The Car Park is situated behind the shops but the entrance is off the High Street and clearly signposted with the usual big blue P. We will be congregating there from 13.00hrs and plan to move off for Alan’s around 13.30hrs.If you are bringing a digital camera to the barbie, stick the USB patch lead in as well – Bob Eve has very kindly offered to download everyone’s pics and produce a compilation disc. Please also bring your own booze and camping chairs and do make sure that you are on Steve Tant’s guest list – Alan is, very generously, catering for this event and Steve has to give him reasonably accurate numbers. If you have any doubts about this or the general arrangements, contact Steve on 020 8550 3046 or 07931 180188. Danbury Gardens Open DayAlthough it was a “short notice e” event, 6 TRs attended Danbury Gardens Open Day on the 12th May. Around 15 classics turned up for what proved to be an interesting visit and the general consensus from those who attended was that it would be worthwhile putting this event on our list of annual regulars. Thanks go to Peter Jones for putting this together...and more new membersI am pleased to report that The Essex Group has a further two new members to welcome – John Pottinger and Vic Russo. John is on the lookout for a TR6 and Vic has just acquired one! If anyone hears of a 6 up for grabs John would be interested – just contact any Committee Member with the details.Salston ManorThe Whit Weekend saw 12 TRs (and a couple of Euro boxes) whacking down to Salston Manor for the “Law and Disorder” Devon Weekender. My alternative “pretty” route proved to be an absolute bummer with heavy traffic and road works at every major town on route! The M25/A303 brigade had no serious hold-ups and definitely had the easier journey. All the cars made the Manor without major incident in “top down” weather – it was noted, however, that the temperatures in Devon were decidedly cooler than those in Essex! A full report of the lunacies of the weekend will be published in Essex Group News so I will not steal that scribe’s thunder other than to congratulate and thank Gerald and Clive for organising such a thoroughly enjoyable and hilarious trip. Due to the disastrous change in the weather, the return journeys were somewhat fraught – particularly for the less than watertight sidescreen cars!TS2 - coming to a club near you!Avid readers of Traction will know that TS2 is currently making its way around the UK and Local Groups are being given the opportunity to examine the car in “hands on” detail. The Essex Group will be displaying TS2 on Wednesday the 6th of June. All Members (and guests) are welcome to join the Committee at “The Rabbits” from around 10.00hrs until noon, and later at “The White Horse” for lunch (buy your own, of course!). The car will remain at “The White Horse” until 19.00hrs when representatives from the East Saxons will take her over. This is a rare opportunity for you to see, at close quarters, the second production TR made and the progenitor of the car you own today. If you need further details, contact Group Leader Andy D on 01245 492416.... and get ready for Essex DayProbably the most important annual event for the Essex Group is now looming large on the horizon – ESSEX DAY on Sunday the 1st July. A great deal of time, effort and your money goes into the production of this event and the Committee needs every member to support the Group on the day. We had a splendid turn-out of members’ TRs last year and we would dearly love to make it bigger and better this time! If you haven’t yet seen Steve T for a ticket, please seek him out at one of the regular meetings this month or ring him if you can’t make the “Rabbits” or the “Horse”. |
