Rebuilt TR7 gets its first outingEaster Sunday started with a superb early morning convoy, on near deserted roads, to the Maldon Museum of Power and the annual “Old Time Rally”. Eleven cars attended and we were all very pleased to see Louise Tant arrive in her newly rebuilt TR7. This was the car’s first outing and Louise was understandably delighted with her “new” car – she may not be so pleased when she finds out how much Steve spent on rebuilding the beast!! Well done Steve for such an excellent job and well done Louise for the perfect demonstration of reverse parking!Cloak and Dagger at the Secret bunkerThe following day saw nine cars set off to rendezvous with the North London Group at the “Secret Bunker” at Kelvedon Hatch. We had planned to “do” the Bunker and then convoy off to Crews Hill in Enfield where a pub lunch had been planned. Due to a bit of a communications glitch, timings went somewhat awry resulting in the later than expected arrival of the North London guys. Even a brief subterranean excursion took up a couple of hours which required a re-jigging of luncheon arrangements. It was no longer viable for the Essex Group to travel to the environs of Enfield as previously intended so we quickly defaulted to “The Fox and Goose”, a well tried and tested watering hole near Cooksmill Green. A very pleasant afternoon was spent eating pub grub and generally socialising – something that the Essex Group seems to do exceedingly well!Bon Voyage to Carol and RichieTuesday the 24th, a superb, sunny and warm evening, saw the conservatory of “The White Horse” bursting at the seams. Members had the opportunity to bid farewell to Carol and Richie King who are re-locating to France. Carol has agreed to continue to edit Essex Group News from her new home in France and, with the help of a new editorial team headed by Terry Blake and Trevor Hughes, we are all keeping our fingers crossed that the magazine will maintain the very high standard which Carol has established over the past three years of her Editorship. Carol has, once again, excelled herself with the latest (and best yet) edition of Essex Group News which will be available at our regular Tuesday meetings. Do try to get along to “The Rabbits” and/or “The White Horse” to collect your copy – it’s well worth the effort! I am sure you would all like to join the Committee in wishing Carol and Richie bonne chance for their new start in la belle France.Welcome to more new membersAt “The White Horse” meeting, the Group welcomed two new members – Rob Counsell and Jon Cobley. Rob runs a ’62 TR4 which he has re-built himself over the past couple of years and Jon joined the Group to aid his search for a decent and affordable TR6. This wish was soon realised when (thanks to a tip from Steve Tant) Jon, Terry Blake and Dave Mayes went to examine a possible purchase. Thanks to Terry and Dave’s expertise, the owner agreed to fix a couple of faults they had found during their inspection and Jon is now the proud new owner! Jon reckons that his tenner subscription to the Group was money well spent!Forthcoming eventsOur next major excursion is, of course, Salston Manor over the Whit Weekend. This will be followed by a new addition to our events list – an afternoon barbecue hosted by Alan Marks (of superb TR3b fame) at his home in Little Bursted (Billericay) on Sunday 3rd June. (The treasure hunt we had planned for June will be held later in the season). Please contact Events Co-ordinator, Steve Tant if you are able to attend as Alan needs some idea of numbers. Steve also needs to know if you are able to join the Group in supporting The Jaguar Owners Club at their show at Battlesbridge on the 5th August. Both these events promise to be really excellent bashes so do make every effort to come along – Steve can be contacted on 020 8550 3046 and 07931 180188 or stephen.tant@kier.co.uk. Alternatively go to the Events page on the website. |
