Articles for the Essex News

Essex News editor Carol King, is now assembling all the copy for the next issue, so if you haven’t yet sent your articles, jokes, cartoons, quizzes, photos etc to her, please do so without any further delay. Carol puts a huge effort into the production of what is probably the best Local Group magazine in the Register, so please do support her and take the time and effort to submit an article (or photo) no matter how short.

Repairs and rebuilds

The Group Leader’s 2 is now back on the road after what developed into a mini-rebuild! Andy obviously enjoys playing about with the car as much as driving it and assures me that the winter work he has undertaken was really necessary and not just a way of getting out of the decorating – yeh, right, Andy! At time of writing, I am still awaiting the return of my rocker shaft so I am looking forward to a spin in Chris and Andy’s 2 – I am sure it will handle like a dream after all the work!

Due to other commitments, progress on Terry’s rebuild has slowed down over the last couple of weeks but he tells me that he is going to really spend some time on it during the milder weather we should (hopefully) get in March!

Ernie’s renovation of his TR5 is progressing to plan and he has just taken delivery of the components which have been powder coated and re-chromed. Ernie is well pleased with the quality of the workmanship and is happy to recommend his specialists to anyone in the Group who is contemplating such work. He is very particular about quality of work so any recommendation from him is valuable. I followed Ernie’s advice regarding speedo repairs and have to say that his repairer was not only reasonably priced but very prompt with his service – more than I can say about my rocker shaft man!!

Ladies day out

The Essex Ladies had a super time at their “Pamper Day”, organised by Christine D, on Saturday the 24th Feb. This was held at “Greenwoods” in Stock. There were lots of things to keep the ladies entertained including a fitness room, massages, facials, water aerobics, swimming, hot tub, steam room and sauna. They even managed to squeeze in a very good lunch. The only disappointment was that the hotel ran out of scones for a cream tea! Everyone said how much they enjoyed the day and special thanks go to Chris for organising such a successful day. Hands on wallets chaps, they want to do it again!

Club Meetings

The end of February meeting at The White Horse was very well attended for the second of our Historic TR Video Shows. The 1956 Alpine Rally featuring a works team of TR3s kept the sidescreen brigade happy and revelling in the huge success the “new” TRs achieved – 5 Alpine Cups, no less! The second film traced the competition successes of the Standard-Triumph marque from 1953 to 1968 and, in my opinion, is one of the best offerings to come from Frank Callaby and the work’s film unit. The gremlins got into the Power-Point hardware during the second film and every time Le Mans was featured, the picture froze. Mike J, who was operating the AV equipment, spends considerable time abroad on business but I didn’t realise he was so fluent in Serbo-Croatian – well, I think it was Serbo-Croatian! The glitches didn’t spoil the show and everybody appeared to enjoy the evening.

Go Karting Tickets

Don’t forget to see Group Leader Andy D for tickets for the Go-Kart racing on Saturday the 24th March. The costs are £25 per head for drivers and £5 for non-driving spectators, these prices include the buffet. We will have the track to ourselves and should get two hours of track time. Racing will probably be in teams of five. All drivers must be over 1.3M tall.

AGM and Buffet - 27th March

Next month’s White Horse meeting on Tuesday 27th March is very important and it would be appreciated if you could all make the effort to attend. It is our Annual General Meeting (no groaning, please!) and we need a good turn-out to conform to our “new” Group Constitution. The Committee promises to keep the proceedings as concise as possible.

For and from your wallet!

The very handy, wallet size, Events Calendars for 2007 are now available at regular monthly meetings. If you are unable to attend, phone or e-mail me and I will post yours.

Logoed Polo and Sweatshirts (at £17 and £20 respectively) are also now available at these meetings.
