Get your articles in for the next Essex News! The copy deadline for Essex News is fast approaching (1st March) so if you haven’t yet sent your articles, jokes, cartoons, quizzes, photos etc to editor Carol King, please do so without delay. Please try to make the time and effort to write an article (or submit a photo), no matter how short.Repairs and rebuildsGroup Leader Andy D has obviously developed the taste for engineering jobs on his 1955 TR2. Having just completed work on a steering conversion, timing chain, electric fan and alternator, he is now in the process of fitting poly bushes, adjustable shocks and an anti-roll bar! Well done, Andy.I finally got round to replacing a broken timing chain tensioner on my 2 and was looking forward to a drive in the winter sunshine. On starting the engine I was pleased to note that there was no noise from the timing chest but a bit concerned at a rather noisy tappet. The rocker cover came off and I was astonished to see that one of my lovely roller rocker arms had “lost” its roller! The whole rocker assembly has gone off to the makers for examination and repair so jaunts in the winter sun are on hold for the time being. Terry Blake is whacking on with his rebuild and, after a foray in the loft, has “found” the seat runners and one seat! Welding work is nearing completion so he is now desperately searching for the suspension components! Ernie Turner’s renovation of his TR5 is progressing well. The engine and gearbox are complete as is the chassis. Bright-work and ancillaries are next on the hit list. Club meetingsThe January meeting at The White Horse was very well attended for Trevor Hughes’ talk on motor fuels. This is a vastly complex subject but Trevor (who is a Chemical Engineer) did an excellent job of de-mystifying the “white man’s magic” associated with the production of modern motor fuels. Many thanks Trevor and I am sure that your words of wisdom regarding Shell V Max petrol fell on fertile ground! This month’s meeting (on the 27th) sees another of our Historic TR Video Shows. This time we will be showing the 1956 Alpine Rally featuring a team of TR3s and a Standard-Triumph film covering rally/race successes from 1953 to 1968. They are both classics for the TR enthusiast and not to be missed! We kick-off at 21.00hrs and should finish around 22.00 so plenty of time for a beer and a natter as well. Next month’s White Horse meeting on Tuesday 27th March is very important and it would be appreciated if all paid up Members could make the effort to attend. It is our Annual General Meeting (no groaning, please!) and we need a good turn-out to conform to our “new” Group Constitution. The Committee promises to keep the proceedings as concise as possible and, as a bit of a sweetener, we have arranged for a buffet to be served at 21.30hrs - after the proceedings. This should enable those who will not have had time for their evening meals, to refuel – it’s also an incentive not to let the meeting run on too much!! Please remember to bring your TR Register Membership Card to the meeting. Go Karting - 24th MarchDon’t forget to see Group Leader Andy D for tickets for the Go-Kart racing on Saturday the 24th March. The costs are £25 per head for drivers and £5 for non-driving spectators; these prices include the buffet. We will have the track to ourselves and should get two hours of track time. Racing will probably be in teams of five. All drivers must be over 1.3M tall. |
