Welcome to Andy Devenish and his wife

First off, I am very pleased to welcome a new member to the Group – some of you may have met Andy Devenish and his wife at the recent Race Nite where they obviously had such a good time that Andy decided to join the Group as a subscribing member. He runs a TR6 and I look forward to seeing Andy and Co. at some of this year’s jollies.

Another successful christmas dinner dance

Our Christmas Dinner Dance, which was held at the Stapleford Abbots Golf Club on Saturday 16th December, was a resounding success with 88 members and their guests attending. Life President, Terry Blake, showed that he had made a complete recovery from his health problems of earlier in the year by not only managing the event but also acting as M.C. and Father Christmas on the evening! Special awards were given to Carol King in recognition of her excellent work as editor of Essex News and to Paul Sealey who has, over the past couple of years, made the Group website into an asset which other Groups would give their crankshafts for! Without the efforts and dedication of Carol and Paul, this Group would not enjoy the high profile that it justifiably commands today. Other awards were presented for wearing the worst hat, pig carving and best dressed – details of these insanities (and more) will appear in the next edition of Essex News where the event will be reported in full!!

Terry has asked me to make the point that this event was very much a team effort and he wishes to thank all those who assisted him with its organisation and also those members and friends who generously donated prizes for the raffle. Without this generosity, the event would have had to have been subsidised from Group funds - as it was (and to the Treasurer’s relief!) we made a small surplus and provided an evening of entertainment which seems to have been enjoyed by all those attending.

Articles wanted for next Essex News

Copy for the above mentioned Essex News closes on 1st March so please get your articles, jokes, cartoons, quizzes, photos etc to editor Carol King without delay. It is a little disappointing that the bulk of the articles are still being penned by Committee members and that relatively few pieces are received from the general membership. Please try to make the time and effort to write an article, no matter how short.

TR7 for sale

Linda Harris has a maroon coloured TR7 for sale to someone who will appreciate and cherish the car. The car is on a “W” plate, having been first registered in 1980. The car has been owned by the family since 1989 and has had a replacement 1998cc engine. Its last MOT was in July 2000 and shows a recorded mileage of around 53K (almost certainly genuine). Linda is open to offers and if you are interested you should contact her on 01992 893021.

Andy's TR2 rebuild

Group Leader Andy D has completed work on his green 2 and is now enjoying the delights of rack and pinion steering and a car that goes where it is pointed! Andy reckons it is as good as power steering and has really transformed the car. He has been a busy boy for, not only has he been working on this conversion, he has also replaced a worn/broken timing chain and tensioner, installed an electric fan, converted to narrow belt and installed an alternator! I gather that a suspension re-bush and an overdrive gear box are next on his list!!

Sell out of the second group Calendar

The second annual Group Calendar was extremely well received and all 150 copies have been sold. Despite the amount of work and financial risk involved, the popularity of these calendars has persuaded the Committee to publish a further edition for 2008 – watch this space!
