Welcome to Rob, Sue and their Grinnall TR7

I am very pleased to welcome Rob and Sue Welch and their rather special TR7 to the Group. Rob has a suspicion that the car may be a Grinnall conversion and is currently working to reveal its history – Rob would be pleased to hear from anyone who has knowledge of this type of car.

Send your articles and photos in to Essex news

Carol King, editor of Essex News, is always after copy for the mag, so please do let her have any pics or articles you think would be of interest to the Group. The next issue will contain full reports of the three excursions Essex Group members have enjoyed during May/June. A small group took their TRs to Normandy for a five day break, eight TRs (plus some euro-boxes) hammered up to Shropshire for the Ironbridge Weekend and ten TRs tipped up for a most enjoyable run out to Kentwell Hall in Suffolk. Both Carol and webmaster Paul would welcome any photos that participants may have taken – both Carol and Paul can be accessed easily via our website (see below).

Get well soon!

June has been an unlucky month on the health front for the Blake’s. Although Terry is now making very good progress and is driving his 4a (when Pat lets him!), poor Pat was struck down with a mystery virus and wound up in the ITU of Old Church Hospital in a pretty serious way. After a two week stay in hospital she is now back home and feeling much better and is determined to make a public appearance at Essex Day this coming Sunday. Mike Forrester has also been a notable absentee from events over the last few weeks due to a broken leg! Fortunately this was not a result of a biking or motor accident but a consequence of over enthusiastic paint-balling!! Mike is also determined to attend Essex Day and will doubtless enthral us with the details of his misfortune whilst we are signing his cast!

Last chance to come to the Essex day

Steve Tant has been doing an outstanding job organising Essex Day and chasing you guys for ticket money. Support has been good but there are still a few of you who have not committed yourselves. The weather forecast for this weekend is excellent, we have our own refreshments tent and pig-roast and many other attractions including visiting Groups and representatives from other Clubs. Feel free to bring your own picnic: we have an area of the grounds set aside for this purpose. Don’t worry if you don’t have an advanced ticket, you will still be able to get in! Even if you are not in your TR we will still be delighted to see you, and any friends you may be able to bring along – don’t forget the other attractions of Ingatestone Hall itself – including displays from a Tudor Dancing Troupe!

Don't miss Mike and Mary's BBQ on 9th....

There is no rest for the wicked during the month of July. After the excitement of Essex Day, the following Sunday (9th) Mary and I are hosting an evening BBQ at South Woodham Ferrers. We kick-off at around 18.00hrs and all Essex Group members are welcome. Please let us know if you will be able to make it and see Mary or me for directions.

.....and then there's Brands Hatch on 16th....

Graham Seeley is organising a convoy to Brands Hatch on Sunday 16th July. This promises to be an excellent day of motor sport with some Essex Group members participating. Contact Graham for details and ticket arrangements etc.

....closely followed by the International weekend 21st - 23rd....

The last weekend of July sees the TR International Weekend at Malvern Showground. Quite a few of us will be camping and a large area for this purpose will be staked out by the “advanced party” who should arrive around lunchtime on the Friday. I will be travelling to Malvern on Friday the 21st using the “pretty route” via Stansted, Baldock, Milton Keynes, Banbury, Evesham and Pershore. The route avoids motorways and major roads (as much as possible) and, given good weather, is a really pleasant start to one of the best TR weekends of the year. If you would like to join Mary and me, please let me know and we can arrange a rendezvous. Subject to the vagaries of the weather, some of us intend to say over until the Monday morning and enjoy a leisurely run back to Essex, with a pub lunch stop on route!

....and finally Ernie and Linda's BBQ on 6th

Ernie and Linda are, very kindly, organising a lunch-time barbecue at their house in Hockley on Sunday the 6th August. A convoy run around the lanes will (hopefully) precede the BBQ - please let Linda and Ernie know if you will be attending and collect the necessary directions.

...then of course you can start planning for next year!

Attached to this Bulletin is an application form for our Salston Manor weekend being held at the end of May next year. These weekends are always very popular and are always oversubscribed. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed and will have a truly memorable and enjoyable three days at the Manor. Although we book the whole hotel, if you don’t act quickly you may well find that all the rooms are taken and you may have to be accommodated elsewhere. So, if you fancy this Bank Holiday blast, don’t delay, send Gerald your cheque and booking form a.s.a.p.
