Easter Sunday outing to LangfordEaster Sunday saw twelve Essex Group members (and a few more not in their TRs) at The Museum of Power car rally at Langford, near Maldon. The show proved to be an interesting diversion on a bright but windy Sunday. The weather was reasonable but, due to steadily increasing clouds and the threat of heavy rain, many exhibitors started to drift away around three o’clock. As shows go, Langford is not in the same category as Battlesbridge but the Museum is very interesting and the avenue of working portable steam engines always has a strong following.Time to get those TRs out!The recent spell of fine weather has seen Essex Group cars out and about after the winter lay-ups. Attendance at The Rabbits on the 9th was excellent with a good showing of TRs., all taking advantage of a dry, warm evening. Although not yet back in their 4a, Terry and Pat Blake were able to attend and Terry was kept busy recounting his recent appearances on local TV and radio – “dead man talking” sort of thing!Membership continues to growI am very pleased to welcome two new members to the Group. Fred (and Christine) Thirkell and Simon Winter all came along to our last White Horse meeting, liked what they saw and decided to join the happy throng. Both Fred and Simon are TR6 owners so they will have plenty of shared interests within our Group – 6s being the most popular model. Current active membership of the Essex Group now stands at 76 owners boasting 87 TRs in total.Latest edition of the Essex news publishedCarol King is to be congratulated on the latest issue of Essex News which she edits and produces. Essex News just seems to get better and better and more professional – the Spring edition would not look out of place in W.H. Smith’s bookshops! Carol is always on the lookout for copy, so please do try to spend some time writing up your TR experiences. If any of you have old magazine articles about our cars that could be re-printed, please let Carol know – old ‘photos would also be welcome. If you haven’t yet received your copy of Essex News, please let me know and I will send you a replacement – some always seem to get lost in the post these days.Stolen car alertWhen you are out and about in your TRs, keep an eye open for Stags - of the Triumph variety, that is. A green Stag (reg. No. THS 79R) was nicked from the Nazeing area recently, so if you spot this car please inform your local Police.Book now for Ernie and Lynda's BBQErnie and Lynda are, very kindly, organising a barbecue at their house in Hockley on Sunday the 6th August to which all are welcome. Please let Lynda and Ernie know if you will be attending and if you are able to give a hand with preparations on the day.Organising payment for eventsWe are now moving into the time of year when participation in the various organised events starts to gain momentum. Group Treasurer, Mike Jennings, has ask me to remind everybody that payment and deposit cheques for events organised by the Group, should always be made payable to “Essex Group – TR Register” and not to the organiser. Members who use their own money when organising events for the Group should seek full reimbursement from the Treasurer rather than collect personal deposit/payment cheques from participants. By sticking to this system, organisers do not have to wait for weeks/months to recoup their outlay and participants’ payments can be easily traced and verified.Help needed for the Essex DayTalking of events, Essex Day at Ingatestone Hall on Sunday 2nd July, is now looming large. Steve Tant has been working hard to ensure the success of this prestigious event and will shortly be moving amongst you for offers of help on the day and the Saturday afternoon set-up session. Please do all you can to both help out and attend, hopefully with your TR, on the day. We are expecting around 150 cars so there will be masses of help needed! |
