Terry back at home

I am sure you will all be pleased and relieved to learn that Terry is back home and recuperating after his successful heart by-pass operation. Do please check with Pat before any visits – she can be reached on 01708 768508. Cards, flowers, money and spare parts for long door 2s should be sent to 21 Carter Close, Collier Row, Romford, RM5 2PB!

Impressive turn out for the Ingatestone Hall photoshoot

Had he been able to attend, Terry would have been proud to see the level of support evident at the Ingatestone Hall photo-shoot on Sunday 26th February. Twenty-six cars tipped up on a cold, grey, sleety morning in order to provide the cover shot for this issue of TRaction. I could not help but be amused to see the wind-up window brigade taking down hoods after they arrived on site whereas virtually all of the sidescreen boys rolled up sans rag-tops avec silly hats!! Very well done to everyone who attended – it just goes to show the superb level of camaraderie, enthusiasm and support that now exists in the Essex Group!

Classic TRs and some dodgy MGs feature at the video night

“The White Horse” at Ramsden Heath has proved to be a real “find” for the Essex Group. The Management is very obliging and the reasonably priced menu excellent. The “classic” video evening we held there on the 28th February was attended by getting on for forty members and guests and was a total success. It was great to see 2s and 3s performing so well at Le Mans, Monte and the Tulip rallies in the mid fifties. These were virtually production cars and not the heavily prepared beasties of modern day competition and I believe that some of the “younger” members of the Group came away with a better appreciation of the true pedigree of the TR sports car – tough, reliable, stylish; it was only Gasto’s ‘orrible woolly hat and Ken Richardson’s braces that let the side down a bit!! The evening degenerated somewhat when Mike Jennings was persuaded to show selected extracts from a dreadful 1960’s trash film featuring a Porsche, an MGA, an MGB and a TR3a (with a broken sidelight – well, you had to be there!), three beautifully upholstered nymphets and a dork in chequered shorts. The plot was too complex to explain here (not!) but Mike Forrester will be happy to answer any questions on this little gem!
