Terry making good progressI am relieved and delighted to report that El Tel’s progress is far in excess of expectations and, when I saw him last Friday (the 3rd), he looked an absolute picture of health! After much consideration his cardiac team have decided that Terry’s best chance of regaining full health lies in a by-pass operation. Although this is an heroic measure, he stands an excellent chance that the problem will be eradicated. Although less drastic, the other surgical alternatives would only treat the symptoms of the arterial blockage rather than rectifying it. Terry is a tough old bugger and I am sure we will soon see him back in the fold – and his TR!If you wish to visit Terry in Hospital, please liaise with Pat (01708 768508 or 07790 362097) who will be able to tell you where he is – the op will be carried out in one of the specialist London hospitals – and visiting arrangements etc. The White Horse proves popularThe Group’s first meeting at “The White Horse” at Ramsden Heath on the 24th January was a resounding success. We had a record attendance of around thirty people and recruited three new Members!A very warm welcome to Warren Booty and his TR6, Tom Pringle (yes he is Alex’s son) and his two 7s – one of which is a rather special (dreadful pun -sorry!) and Ray and Gloria Saunders with their superb TR3a. The management and staff made us very welcome and the grub and the beer were excellent. The “Old Windmill” is still deserted and unlikely to re-open in the foreseeable future so, for my money, I will be very happy to have “The White Horse” as our permanent venue. Our next meeting there (on the 28th) is the night of the Classic TR Video Show which has been relocated from the Blackmore Village Hall. I can promise that this will be an excellent evening for all TR enthusiasts, so do make a special effort to come along. If you intend to sample the extensive menu before the show, please arrive early and eat in the bar. The video show will start at 20.30hrs. Deadline for articles for the next Essex newsCopy for the next edition of Essex News closes on the 1st of March so do please let Carol (or any Committee Member) have your scribblings and snaps a.s.a.p. Mike J is desperate for items to be included in “Mike’s Mart” so if you have any bits and bobs you wish to get rid of, please let Mike know.Photos wanted for the websiteOur website seems to just get better and better, largely thanks to the efforts of webmaster Paul S. If you've got here you obviously know the web address www.essex-tr.org. All your Committee Members are now accessible through the site and Paul is always on the look out for photos and articles for inclusion.Essex Group to feature on the front page of TRactionSteve Redway, the editor of TRaction, has asked the Essex Group to provide a cover photograph for issue 210 of the Register magazine. This is a rare and unexpected privilege and one which your Committee is relying on your support to justify Steve’s confidence in our Group. Thanks once again to the generosity of the Lord Petre of Ingatestone Hall, his beautiful Tudor home will provide the backdrop to this photograph. Shooting will take place on Sunday the 26th February at 10.00hrs. It is appreciated that many of you will still have your TRs laid up at this time of year but such opportunities are rare (and will add to the provenance of your car) and not to be missed. Please do make every possible effort to support this initiative and turn up in your TR, irrespective of the weather, on the 26th. Ingatestone Hall is just the other side of the railway level crossing at Ingatestone Station which is in Station Road, a turning off the High Street. It would be most helpful if you could contact Graham Seeley and let him know if you will be attending. Graham can be reached at events@essex-tr.org or 01621 842020. |
