Membership just keeps growing!A warm welcome to Adam Cohn, a new Member of the Essex Group. Adam was introduced to TRs by Alan Marks and is currently involved in a re-build of a 3a. I understand that this will be a high quality re-build and I am looking forward to seeing another resurrected side-screen car at our regular meetings. Adam is the 73rd subscribing member of this Group - which now represents 81 TRs!Club nightsAttendances at The Old Windmill go from strength to strength with an average of twenty members plus partners regularly showing up. Regrettably, this level of support is not evident at our other venue, The Rabbits and the Committee is now becoming concerned that if we don?t use it we will lose it. If you live in the west of the County do please try to make the effort on the second Tuesdays and come along to The Rabbits ? the grub is good and the beer and company excellent!!National restoration show at StoneleighA small contingent of Essex Group Members attended The National Restoration Show & Autojumble at Stoneleigh at the end of October. The drive to the Midlands was quite enjoyable as it was a bright, sunny morning albeit very cold and frosty. By the time we arrived in Warwickshire, the sun had disappeared and was replaced by slashing rain, driven by a freezing northerly wind. We had to park about ? mile from the show hall so, by the time we made shelter, we were all well and truly soaked! I thought the show was excellent with loads of stalls catering for both the new and used ends of the classic car spares market. Terry collected his newly rebuilt SU H6 carbs from Andrew Turner of Lincolnshire. This company is to be highly recommended as Terry?s originally scruffy units now looked like brand new instruments. We were all so impressed that two other members of the party have since sent off their carbs for some of Andrew?s T.L.C.!! Another ?steal? at this show was the price of the high delivery (six blade impellor) water pumps which were going for ?40. These are made in Birmingham by the O.E. factory and were not the Asiatic re-pros so often seen. Eat your heart out, Moss!Race night a great successSaturday the 12th November saw the realisation of a ?new? initiative for the Essex Group ? the Race Nite. This event was very well supported by members and their families. Those who couldn?t make the evening were still able to support the event by sponsoring cars/drivers. The Childerditch Village Hall was full to capacity and the din as the races got underway was truly deafening! Thanks go to Terry?s friends, George and Jackie Civil who ran the tote most professionally and Julie Hughes for organising the prizes for the children?s events. Although the many children who attended were not allowed to place bets, they all had a thoroughly enjoyable time actually racing the cars and operating the starting board! Due to the success and popularity of this evening, this event will be reprised in 2006.News from the TR Register AGMSeveral members of the Committee attended the Register AGM at Gaydon on the 20th November. Despite the rumblings in TRAction, Ian Evans was re-elected as Chairman and there were no other surprises. Terry is preparing a write up of the day and this will be published in the next edition of ESSEX NEWS. By now, all subscribing members should have received their copies of the October 05 magazine. On this occasion they were distributed direct to the membership from the printers and I know of at least one member whose copy went astray. If you have not received your magazine, please let me know a.s.a.p. and I will post you a replacement.Electric night in Brentwood! Thanks to the good offices of Roger Mew, the Essex Group Technical Evening at the South Essex Golf Centre in Brentwood on Tuesday the 29th November was another unrivalled success. The speaker for the evening, Norman Turner, is an old friend of Roger?s and has a lifetime?s experience of car electrics. With the help of a ?hand-out? prepared by Roger, he was able to address the subject of OHM?s Law in a clear and understandable way and show how knowledge of this is essential to solving many tricky electrical faults we may encounter on our vehicles. His address covered source impedance and voltage drop in circuits, performance of spot/head lights, fault finding on ignition systems and fuel pumps and a whole lot more. We all felt that Norman had only just scratched the surface of the potential (excuse the pun!) fund of faults/remedies and I hope that we will be able to persuade him to come back and impart more of his extensive knowledge for our benefit. We have plans to run at least two other Tech Evenings in the New Year ? so watch this space for details.Events for next yearAt our recent Committee Meeting, the (more or less) final shape of our Events Calendar for 2006 was determined. Copies of this will be available at the Christmas Dinner and with the January Bulletin. Three important dates that should go into your diary straight away are our own AGM on Tuesday March 14th, the Ironbridge Weekender, 26th to 28th May and Essex Day on the 2nd July. Full details of these events will be published in future Bulletins. We are always very happy to expand the Events Calendar so, if you have any suggestions or would be prepared to organise an event (barbecues for example) please contact Events Co-ordinator Graham Seeley, who will discuss the details with you.The venue for the Ironbridge trip has been moved to the Long Mynd Hotel due to unsatisfactory parking arrangements at the Prince Rupert Hotel. Three nights of half board work out at ?336 per couple and places are limited so don?t delay in letting Graham know if you would like to come on what promises to be a fascinating weekend away. Get well soon, ErnieI am sure you would all like to join me in wishing Ernie Turner a speedy recovery from his long-awaited hip operation. I understand that the op has gone well and he will soon be home to convalesce. Ernie is a determined bugger and I bet it won't be too long before he is roaring around the lanes in his magnificent TR6. All the very best, Ernie, from your many friends in the Essex Group!...and finallyIn conclusion, the Committee and I would like to take this opportunity of wishing you all a very happy Christmas and a safe and healthy New Year and to thank you for the support you have given the Essex Group Committee over the past twelve months. |
