The Battlesbridge showThe ever-popular Battlesbridge Classic Car show on the 25th Sept. was amazingly well supported with nearly 20 TRs on our stand. A brief, early shower of rain quickly cleared leaving a super sunny September Sunday. The full range of models was present and attracted huge public interest – at times our enclosure was so full that you couldn’t see the cars for people!! My own 2 and Mike Jennings’s 3 were both 50 years old this year (September & October respectively) and sported the appropriate balloons and banners which proved quite a draw for the general public and a journalist from Classic Car (I think!). The afternoon was nicely rounded off with celebratory champers, nibbles and birthday cake, courtesy of Mike and Val Jennings. This event also saw a boost to our subscribing members with Joe and Fiona Forshaw, Michael Cracknell and Alan Snares, all proud TR6 owners, joining the Group. A warm welcome also goes to Trevor and Lorraine Bines and their white TR4. The Essex Group now has 69 members (owning 78 TRs).Race night - 12th NovemberThe Group race night was a great success. There were 60 people there and they all had a great time. 442 bets were placed on 7 races plus 2 children’s races. It was great fun and looks like becoming a regular feature for the club!Christmas Dinner 17th DecemberYou should also contact Terry to reserve your tickets for our Christmas Dinner. Tickets are going fast and places are limited so don’t delay. Non-TR friends are also very welcome at this event which, this year, is being held at the Stapleford Abbots Golf Club on Saturday the 17th December. The 2006 CalendarThe Essex Group Calendar, featuring an eclectic selection of our cars, was such a success that it was completely sold out within 10 days of its becoming available!! If you are desperate for a copy(s), please contact either Terry or Mike Jennings who are currently considering the viability of a limited print re-run.Rebuild news.Mike Foresters TR2 is finally out and about doing its first 1000 miles (slowly!). Mike Jennings has got his new engine in thanks to help from terry.Technical evening 29th NovemberThanks to the good offices of Roger Mew, the Essex Group is holding a Technical Evening at the South Essex Golf Centre in Brentwood on Tuesday the 29th November. Full bar facilities will be available and we kick off at around 19.30hrs with a presentation from a guest speaker on “Getting the best out of your Multimeter” – with particular reference to fault finding on our cars’ electrics.Events for next yearOur Events Co-ordinator, Graham Seeley, is happy to receive your ideas for the Events Calendar for 2006. If you have any suggestions or would be prepared to organise an event (barbecues for example) please contact Graham who will be happy to discuss the details with you. Mike Boling is keen to organise a long weekend camping in Norfolk with visits to Caister Castle Motor Museum, barbecues and possibly a river cruise in Broadland. Camping always proves popular at the International but Mike is uncertain of the level of general support for this type of event. If you would be interested in an “under canvas” TR weekend, please let him know and he will get the ball rolling. |
