Meetings and members

Attendances at “The Old Windmill” have been good and have continued to outshine those at “The Rabbits” and, although these have recently improved slightly, the licensee has made mention of the lack of Group activity on the second Tuesdays. “The Rabbits” is an excellent venue with good, inexpensive food and excellent facilities and it would be a shame to lose it due to poor attendances. Remember the old adage, “use it or lose it!” On a positive note, I am delighted to welcome the following owners to the Essex Group : Graham Stokes (TR7), Alan Martin (TR3a), Terry Pickford (TR2), Peter Davenport (TR4a), Mark Potiphar (TR6), and David Mayes (TR6). Membership currently stands at 67 owners accounting for 75 TRs!

Duxford day out

Fourteen Essex Group cars tipped up at Duxford Aerodrome on the 21st August after an excellent run through the minor roads of Essex and Cambridgeshire. The weather was excellent and congratulations must go to the Cam Followers for organising yet another successful Eastern Groups’ Gathering. Congrats also to Ernie T and his magnificent 6. Ernie achieved 2nd place in the “Car you would most like to take home” competition.

Ten Countries Run

Chris Shaw (TR7) and co-driver Richard King are setting off on Thursday the 8th September on the Ten Countries Run organised by Club Triumph. This is a tough European rally which takes in much of the Monte Carlo/Rallye des Alpes route including the Stelvio Pass! It is a 3 to 4 day event and the crews depart from “The Plough” pub, Cattlegate Road, Crews Hill, Enfield, EN2 9JD (Waltham Cross area) at 13.30 hrs. (full directions at www.theploughcrewshill.com ). About 45 assorted Triumph cars are expected to take part. Chris and Richie would be very grateful for your support at the send-off on Thursday.

Goodwood revival meeting cancelled

Probably due to the high cost of entry, there has been little interest in the Goodwood Revival meeting (18th Sept) so it is not viable to run this as a Group event. One or two members are intending to attend so if you fancy joining them, speak to Graham Seeley (01621 842020) for more details.

Battlesbridge 2005

The ever-popular Battlesbridge Classic Car show is on the 25th Sept. and the Essex Group have booked a stand. Currently around 10 TRs have booked places but there is plenty of room so, if you can make it, contact Graham Seeley before the closing date on the 12th.

Group Race Nite - 12th November

Preparations are well advanced for the Group Race Nite on the 12th November. This will be an hilarious event and tickets will be available at local meetings and from Committee Members. The cost, which includes a chicken or fish & chip supper, is £7.50 and the evening is open to all Members and as many guests as you can bring along.

Places for our Christmas Dinner are going fast so contact Terry Blake (01708 768508) without delay to reserve your tickets. Non-TR friends are also very welcome at this event which, this year, is being held at the Stapleford Abbots Golf Club.

Coming soon - the Essex Group Calendar!

The Essex Group Calendar, featuring an eclectic selection of our cars, is currently with the printers and should be available very soon. Considerable funds have been invested in this initiative so your support is vital. I am sure that most of our friends and relatives would be pleased to receive a copy of this unique publication instead of the usual calendars with horses and fluffy kittens! It is a limited edition, so look out for them at local meetings.

Time to start planning next years events

Events Co-ordinator, Graham Seeley, is currently compiling the Events Calendar for 2006. Your Committee has already identified several “major” events including a weekend in the Black Country (sounds lovely, don’t it?!) at the end of May, an Essex Day (along the lines of the Kent Weekender and the Duxford Gathering) and a long weekend in Norfolk. If you have any suggestions or would be prepared to organise an event (barbecues for example) please contact Graham who will be happy to discuss the details with you.
